Current President AHAR

Shri Shivanand D.Shetty

Dear Members,

Due to the Pandemic situation in the past years; Government was forced to initiate a lockdown throughout India leading to a disaster for the Hospitality Industry. From entering into the strict lockdown of 8 Months in Maharashtra to the Migration of our employees to their respective homes, the hospitality industry went through a historic brunt of setbacks – one after the other.

Then came a part wherein AHAR had to initiate a dialogue with the state government for starting up things for our industry. We not only suffered a business loss in these years due to the pandemic but also lost our loved ones. Our industry was going through the worst turmoil in history and we had to push our whole potential at work with our office bearers. I would like to take you on a journey by entailing the work we have done so far for bringing our industry out of the doldrums to whatever extent it was possible from our side.

We filed a writ petition against big food aggregators in the Bombay High Court citing inclusion of illegal eateries on their apps leading to loss of legitimate restaurants.
With our efforts, MGL's supply of Piped Natural Gas to restaurants is reduced from 13.5% to 3% saving a whopping 10% on the aggregate bill amount to all the restaurants in the state
In the matter of Excise License Fee, as the Bombay High Court had quashed our writ petition for conducting the business by paying 50% of license fee, We had to move to Supreme Court to protect the rights of our members
AHAR pushed for FOSTAC Trainings & Hygiene Ratings in association with FSSAI. Shri. Shashikant Kekare, Joint Commissioner, FDA appreciated the support of AHAR in getting Maharashtra to 3rd place from earlier 13th place in hygiene rating.
In association with HPCL, Our members were offered a discount of Rs. 120/- per cylinder throughout for the period of one year.

I am also delighted to inform you that our 43rd AGM will be held at Hotel Sahara Star, Vile Parle, Mumbai on 10th and 11th January 2023. We are also hosting “AHAR HOSPITALITY EXPO 2023” in association with World of Hospitality. A trade exhibition like never before and spanning a space of almost 40,000 sq ft. followed by social events and knowledge seminars. I hope the upcoming event shall set a benchmark for AHAR in coming times & also hope that members will participate with the same enthusiasm as they did last year.

My team and I have selflessly worked to get maximum benefits for our industry – call it – kicking off restaurants to put an end to harassment by officials in operations of business. I would like to specially thank advisors, Committee Members and all of those who have supported us.

At last, my entire team and I wish you and your family a very prosperous new year.

Shivanand Shetty
